This one was on a woman named Ruby Gettinger, who at one time tipped the scales at 700 pounds. Now she's wanting to document some weight loss and how she deals with everyday life using a TV show.

It made me think about how public I make my weight loss efforts. Usually a couple friends know if I'm trying to lose weight (always girls) but that's it. Very rarely to I tell my guy friends when I'm trying to lose weight. Granted there are exceptions but not often. For some reason I always saw it as something more private and almost like "Yes I know I'm heavier than I need to be." *Shrugs* And also I think the "dieting scene" fits in the stereotype of a woman and I hate stereotypes and try to stay away from them as much as possible.

How public do you make your weight loss efforts?

Are there specific you tell or people you would never tell about it?

Getting a Sandwich, But Without The Carbs

I love sandwiches. They're easy, quick, easy to handle, and the options are literally ENDLESS! But when trying to watch your carbs it's usually not the best idea to have an egg sandwich for breakfast, some type of wrap for lunch, and soup with a grilled cheese sandwich at night. If I were to have that menu today using the type of whole grain bread I have on hand and tortillas for the wrap I would get 85 carbs from the breads ALONE! That doesn't count everything I'd put in them and the snacks I'd have between.

What are some other options? I've found that I can use a large lettuce leaf as "wrap" for any kinds of meats or "salads" (chicken, egg, etc..) Also just using one piece of bread is an easy way to cut down the carbs and you don't have to sacrifice the taste. It's not as easy to handle as with both pieces of bread but it works.

What do you do to watch your carb intake and what are some substitutions you make?
Does Your Style Affect Your Weight?

I wear fairly conservative clothes. I don't like showing a lot of skin and my style reflects that.

I also am not extremely thin. Not overweight by any means, just mid range for what I should be for my height and bone structure.

I've often said though that even if I liked showing a lot of skin, I'd feel self conscious about doing so because of my weight. I'm not one who has the tight toned arms and legs, but you can't tell that cause my clothes always cover it up. I've been out shopping with friends before as they're trying on swimsuits and what not and hear, "Well if I'm going to wear this I need to lose 10lbs..." And low and behold the next day they're on (another) diet. I don't like wearing clothes like that so I don't have the "I need to lose ___lbs...."

What do you think? Does your style of clothes affect your desire to be a certain weight or not?

Eating Healthy On Campus... Without Breaking The Budget

I went back to my campus today after a long break. Rehearsals during the day and a performance at night, I just decided to stay the whole day. Getting ready I was running things through my mind of what to bring to eat that isn't packaged sugar and carbs. I wasn't coming up with anything and time was running out so I just decided to plan on buying a salad or something... which is 3-4 bucks but hey it's just one time right? I remember last year though trying to figure that out multiple times every week and often resorting to buying my food which after a while took a toll on my minimal college student account.

What do y'all do in the same dilemma? What are easy things a college student can pack in their bag to give them energy for the rest of the day... but is more than just some oatmeal parts glued together with sugar and peanut butter?

Not Staying Fit = No Relationship?

"I just couldn't be with anyone who doesn't care of their body and is overweight. That just.... disturbs me."

I sat looking at him trying to keep a semblance of control on my face. Surely he did not just say that! Here was this guy trying to impress me and he makes a comment like that. Granted, he is very fit and works out several times a week. He has always made fitness a priority in his life and that's great, I respect him for that. But that comment really took me a back and made me think. Yes I like to care of my body and stay fit. But I don't want to be with a guy who, if I suddenly gain a lot of weight, doesn't want to be with me anymore. That also shows, to me at least, that one of his main focuses is on how I look. Which while for the moment that's a compliment because he wants to be with me, but it's not something to base a long term relationship on obviously.

What do y'all think? What would you have done if someone had said this to you?

Do you find yourself mainly being with people of a similar "fitness level?"

How much does health and fitness play a part in your relationship?

Breakingthemold breaks into new territory!

This is my new healthkicker site, you can see my datingish site at www.datingish.com/breakingthemold.

Let's see if I can write on this topic as well!
